№ 01 · The experience 경험

Not a class.
An experience.

Most language workshops happen in classrooms. This one happens in the dining room of a working Korean restaurant — tables cleared, ingredients laid out, hands in the napa cabbage, learning Korean the way it's actually used.

🥬

Real napa cabbage

Salt it, rinse it, layer it. Hands in the brine. Not a demo — you do it.

🌶️

Authentic seasoning

Gochugaru, garlic, ginger. Mr. Dakgalbi uses fish-sauce-free halal paste. Haru uses the traditional fish-sauce recipe.

💬

Korean in context

Learn the words while you use them. 맛있어요. 매워요. 짜요. They stick because you tasted them.

🏺

Take it home

One sealed jar — about 500g of your own kimchi — plus the printed recipe in Korean and English.

№ 02 · The 2.5 hours 진행

What actually happens.

Every session follows the same flow whether you're at Mr. Dakgalbi or Haru. Native Korean host, hands-on cooking, language built into every step.

Prep the cabbage

Cut, salt, layer the napa cabbage. The most important step — and the one most YouTube tutorials skip the timing on. You'll feel the difference between under-salted and ready.

배추 — 소금 — 물 Cabbage — salt — water

iii
0:4540 minutes

Make the seasoning paste

Gochugaru, garlic, ginger, pear, scallion, sticky rice paste. At Mr. Dakgalbi (halal venue): fish-sauce-free paste. At Haru: traditional fish-sauce recipe. Your host walks you through both.

고춧가루 — 마늘 — 생강 Chilli flakes — garlic — ginger

Combine & jar

Coat every leaf — gloves on, hands in. Pack into your jar to take home. This is the photo moment. Bring a friend who'll send it to you.

맛있어요! Delicious!

Eat together

Lunch with the kitchen's prepared aged kimchi (so you know what yours will become in 2 weeks), plus rice and a small Korean side. Conversation in Korean and English — natural, mixed, no pressure.

№ 03 · For families 가족

№ 07 · Real questions 질문

The honest answers.

What's the difference between "confirmed" and "forming"?

Confirmed sessions (Saturday at Mr. Dakgalbi) run every week regardless of headcount — you book, you pay, your seat is locked. Forming sessions (Friday/Sunday at Haru) need 6 learners to run. You pay a 50% deposit (RM 70) to lock your spot, and we charge the remaining RM 70 only when 6 learners have joined. If we can't fill the cohort within 4 weeks, we either move your deposit to the next session or refund it — your choice.

Can my kids really cook? Is it safe?

Yes — we host kids age 8 and up regularly. Each child gets their own cooking station with kid-sized everything: smaller knives (or none, depending on age), gloves that fit, a kid-sized jar (~250g), and constant host supervision. The host is trained in keeping kids engaged. We've done dozens of family sessions with no incidents. If your child is younger than 8, they're welcome to come along but won't have their own station — just let us know on the form.

Is the kimchi halal?

Only at Mr. Dakgalbi (Saturday). Mr. Dakgalbi is a halal-certified Korean restaurant, and the kimchi made there uses a fish-sauce-free seasoning paste. Haru (Friday/Sunday) is not halal-certified and uses the traditional fish-sauce recipe. If halal certification matters to you, choose the Saturday session at Mr. Dakgalbi.

Will the workshop be in a kitchen?

Not a separate kitchen — the workshop runs in the dining space of the restaurant. Tables are cleared, ingredients laid out, and you work at your own table station. It feels less like a cooking school and more like sitting down to make kimchi at a friend's family restaurant.

I don't speak any Korean. Will I be lost?

No — most of our learners come in knowing zero Korean. The host teaches every phrase in context, points to ingredients, and translates everything. By the end of 2.5 hours, you'll have used about 12 Korean phrases naturally.

Can I reschedule if something comes up?

Yes — free reschedule up to 48 hours before the session. Within 48 hours, RM 25 admin fee. Cancellation: 100% refund 7+ days out, 50% if 3–7 days out, none within 48 hours.

How much kimchi do I actually take home?

Adults take home about 500g in a sealed jar. Kids take home ~250g. The kimchi is fresh on the day; it'll ferment over the next 7–14 days in your fridge and reach peak flavor at week 2.

Can I book for a private group?

Yes — if you have 6 or more people, we run a private session at either venue. Discounted to RM 130/person. WhatsApp us with your group size and 2–3 preferred dates.
